Title: AHP. Asset Valuation Using Multi-Criteria Methods. Auto-description: This video presents the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method, developed by a mathematician and economist in 1980 as a technique for improving decision-making in organizations. AHP is based on the psychology of paired comparisons, where the human mind effectively compares two elements at a time, and a numbered scale of one to nine is used to assign relative importance between pairs of criteria or alternatives. The method has a solid mathematical foundation, including the concept of consistency in comparison matrices, which must be verified to ensure decision consistency. It has been widely tested with applications in diverse fields such as economics, education, and urban planning; however, it had not been used for asset valuation until a Multi-Criteria Valuation and Decision group adapted the methodology for this purpose. During the video, an exercise is demonstrated that involves choosing the best alternative from four options, considering a series of criteria with different weights. The process of creating paired comparison matrices for the criteria and alternatives, calculating the eigenvector to determine the importance of each criterion, and finally multiplying the matrices to obtain the final weighting of the alternatives is explained. To apply AHP to asset valuation, the designations used in decision-making are replaced by explanatory variables and comparable assets, following an analogous procedure. The final step is to establish the value of an asset by calculating a ratio based on the prices of comparables and their weighting, thus providing a useful tool in both decision theory and asset pricing.
