GENES II (2024–2027): Building the Next Generation of African Research Leaders
GENES II (2024–2027): Building the Next Generation of African Research Leaders Welcome to GENES II! Funded by the European Union under the Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme, GENES II (2024–2027) is a transformative four-year project designed to strengthen higher education and research capacity across the continent. At its core, GENES II is about connection and excellence. We are creating a sustainable network of seven leading universities—one European technical partner working hand-in-hand with six dynamic African institutions—to empower Master’s and PhD students, as well as university staff. Who is involved? • Lead Partner: Ebonyi State University (Nigeria) • African Partners: o University of Abomey-Calavi (Benin) o Jimma University (Ethiopia) o Egerton University (Kenya) o North-West University (South Africa) o University of Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe) • Technical Partner (Europe): Wageningen University & Research (The Netherlands) What do we do? The project focuses on Genomics, Environment, Nutrition, and Sustainability—addressing critical challenges from food security to climate resilience. By facilitating cross-border mobility for students and academics, GENES II is breaking down silos, fostering innovation, and ensuring that African solutions lead global conversations. A Word of Thanks We acknowledge the generous support of the European Union. Without this funding and commitment to intra-Africa collaboration, a project of this scale and ambition would not be possible. The EU’s vision for a connected, skilled, and prosperous Africa is the engine driving GENES II. Stay Connected Follow our journey from 2024 to 2027 as scholars move between Benin, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and the Netherlands. Together, we are not just funding mobility; we are building a legacy. #GENESII #EUFunded #IntraAfricaMobility #HigherEducation #ResearchExcellence
