Grade 5 Aural Tests - Repetition of a Melody
Repeating back a melody by either singing it or playing it on an instrument. Suitable for candidates preparing for ABRSM Grade 5 practical exams. The first aural test for grade 5 involves the candidate repeating a melody that has been played twice by the examiner. After the examiner has played the tonic chord and the starting note, and has counted two bars of the pulse, the melody is played twice. The candidate is then invited to sing back the melody or to play it back on his or her instrument. This video takes you through the process and offers golden tips on how to remember the melody and the rhythm, and how to sing with confidence. Candidates can whistle or hum if they prefer not to sing. Gareth also offers help to those who choose to play the melody, though this is a harder alternative for most people. Beyond the exam, this is a useful skill for musicians to develop memory, pitch and rhythm skills. 🔴 Subscribe for more videos just like this: / @musicmattersgb 🎵 Become a Music Matters Maestro: / @musicmattersgb 👕 Merch store: / @musicmattersgb 🕘 Timestamps 0:00 - Introduction to grade 5 aural tests 1:30 - Advice on singing 3:29 - An example of how to approach this test 7:29 - Advice on playing the melody back on an instrument 9:26 - Practice tests 🎓 Grade 5 Aural Tests Course When it comes to music exams, candidates often prepare themselves well for the playing but are less sure when it comes to the Aural Tests.
