Shingkhar Dechenling is one of the eight ling visited by Longchen Rabjam during his visit to Bhutan. Longchen Rabjam was a 14th century nyingmapa master born in 1308 in Tibet. In his later years he travelled to Bhutan and propounded the great Dzongchen teachings to his devotees. He was a great Buddhist master revered by the Bhutanese and to this day, Pilgrims travel to his place of practice known as the Longchen Ling-gyed or the eight centres of Longchenpa which are Tarpa Ling, Dechen Ling, Orgyencholing, Kunzang Ling, Drechak Ling, Pema Ling and Samten Ling.
