Waiting For You - Kenny G, Sweet Soprano (PSR-9000), played on Genos2, the history of technology

A journey through the technologies of Yamaha sound generation. The Sweet Soprano sound from the PSR-9000 was characterized by an extremely long sample for its time (late 1990s). As is typical for Sweet sounds, the natural vibrato was looped. However, the vibrato was only played after a long dynamic arc – very much in the style of Kenny G. I (Thoralf Abgarjan) played this track at presentations of the PSR-9000 and 9000Pro. In this example, I'm using the Genos2, which, of course, benefits enormously from the native FM sound generation to perfectly recreate the 80s style. An interesting detail: The 9000Pro had expansion slots and could, for example, be expanded with an FM board. This meant that even with the 9000Pro, I could use the FM board to play the intro the way I'm playing it here on the Genos2, i.e., with a real DX7 piano. There was also a VL board for physical modeling, a piano board, and a drum board for the 9000Pro. These, like all other Sweet Sounds, can still be found in current Yamaha models in the Legacy category.
