Trains are running, theaters are open, but the system is becoming unbalanced. Russia is repeating 1916, and, according to Kulik, the point of superfragility is now inevitable. Political analyst Vitaly Kulik and host Yuri Romanenko examine what's happening to Russia under drone strikes, sanctions, and internal brutality—and why it's facing not a textbook revolution, but the vortex of its own civil war. The historical framework is the Russian Empire of 1916: outwardly, everything is in order, but the system is crumbling, and as early as February 1917, Vestnik Evropy published an article by Milyukov about Russia's need for the Dardanelles and the Bosphorus. Kulik has this magazine—as well as his own map of Russia's possible collapse, which he continues to confirm. The point of superfragility, the analyst believes, will be reached after this war in any case; whether Russia will survive it is another matter. It doesn't arrive at the climax of an economic crisis, as in Germany: the empire was finished off by a simple bread shortage in Petrograd and the center's inability to respond. It's telling that Lev Vershinin, a former adviser to Surkov who built a network of Russian propaganda and agents in Ukraine and was involved in attempts to create the KhNR in Kharkiv and Odesa, is now talking about Russia's collapse. They'll destroy the infrastructure, destroy the regions' capacity, and the federal center won't be able to cope—and Kulik believes this analysis is correct: doing anything to break Russia apart now would mean saving itself from the black hole into which it will fall. At the same time, diplomatic strikes won't give the Kremlin the drive to mobilize. Hurray-patriotism will never return to Russia—this is being documented by its own sociologists: the wave that could have prompted a mobilization passed in 2022-2023. Now there will be no riots or major protests – just quiet sabotage, glitches, and a dysfunctional system. The cumulative effect – strikes, sanctions, a slump in the banking sector, pressure from China, and the Central Asian scam – is eroding Russian composure, but for Putin, this is not an argument for ending the war. The argument is for his entourage, who still hope to live a normal life: the Kremlin elders have young wives who want to live their best life in Monaco. But there are no more safe havens: Crimea is off-limits, Hainan is unattainable, a Belarusian official is not entitled to a mansion near Beijing, in China you're just a "laowai" – a white idiot. The ultimate dream is the North Korean resort of Wonsan. The main thing is aggression, which has nowhere to go. There is no longer an external sewer: it can't be directed at Ukraine; the West has burned out as an enemy. According to Levada, domestic violence in Russian families has increased by 300%—aggression builds within, destroys bonds, atomizes society, and erodes humanity. Then comes pogroms and the search for an internal enemy: migrants, "urban versus rural," a possible domestic uprising somewhere in Bashkortostan, extinguished by punitive detachments, an oprichnina. Or an attempt at a small, victorious war—in the South Caucasus, or perhaps even Europe. Above, an even harsher totalitarian regime that will try to digitalize citizens, to worm its way into their beds and thoughts, but will fail completely—and will falter. This is the vortex of their civil war. The interlocutors agree: Ukraine has already dealt with its consequences—so there's no need to worry about a Russian rebellion, senseless and merciless.
