Free Spanish Lessons #13 - The colors in Spanish (Los colores)

In this new lesson, our favorite Spanish Guru Maider teaches us how to say the colors in Spanish. It’s very easy and we’re sure you’ll memorize these words in a heartbeat: Blanco - White Negro - Black Rojo - Red (Attention Portuguese speakers!) Amarillo - Yellow Morado - Purple Azul - Blue Naranja - Orange Verde - Green Rosa - Pink Gris - Grey Marrón - Brown You should also memorize two other words which change the intensity of the color: Claro - light, bright Oscuro - dark For example, “verde claro” is light green and “verde obscuro” is dark green. “Azul claro” is bright blue and “azul oscuro” is dark blue. As all substantives in Spanish, the colors also have a gender. And they’re all masculine! So, if you someone asks your favorite color, you should reply “Mi color favorito es EL rojo/azul/negro/morado/...”. However, colors can also be used as adjectives to describe objects. In that case, they change according to the gender and number. For example, if someone asks you “¿Dé qué color son tus ojos?” (what color are your eyes), you should reply “Mis ojos (eyes - plural) son verdes/azules/marrones (green/blue/brown). For feminine nouns, you should use: blanca, negra, roja, amarilla, morada, azul, naranja, verde, rosa, gris, marrón. For plural nouns, you should use: blancos/blancas, negros/negras, rojos/rojas, amarillos/amarillas, morados/moradas, azules, naranjas, verdes, rosas, grises, marrones. Ready to practice?
