Free Spanish Lessons #11 - Muy vs Mucho
What are the differences between muy and mucho? If you’re trying to learn Spanish, there’s something you must’ve asked yourself a thousand times: muy or mucho? The literal translation of muy is “very” and mucho would be “a lot” (or a lot of, many). But the literal translation doesn’t always correspond to the word you should use in Spanish - so let Maider guide you through it. Muy is used BEFORE adjectives and adverbs to increase the intensity of them. Muy + adjective: For example, “muy inteligente” means “very intelligent”. Or ¡Esto es muy fácil! which means This is very easy! Muy + adverb: For example, “may rápido” means “very fast”. Mucho is a quantity adjective. As all adjectives in Spanish, it has to agree in gender and in number with the noun. Therefore, we use mucho/mucha and mucho/muchas. For example: “Me gusta mucho el Español” means “I like Spanish a lot”. “Hay mucha gente en España” means “There are a lot of people in Spain” “Tengo muchos amigos” means “I have many friends.” “Comi muchas freesias” means “I ate a lot of strawberries”. But when “mucho” is used with a verb, IT DOESN’T CHANGE. “Tú estudias mucho”. You study a lot. “He comido mucho.” I ate a lot. Pero ojo! We say “hace mucho frio”, which means “it’s very cold” and “have mucho calor” which means “it’s very hot”. Thanks for watching and don’t forget to subscribe to our channel!
