Route de la Roche d'Auris, Balcony Road D211A, Dauphiné, France - by motorcycle

The D211A balcony road is located on the eastern escarpment of the Romanche River valley. Le Bourg d'Oisans, on the main road from Grenoble to Briançon, is the central town in this valley. Around this village, in the mountains of the Dauphiné Alps, there are some famous ski resorts (e.g. Alpe d'Huez and Deux Alpes). The D211A road turns off at La Garde (about halfway up the climb to Alpe d'Huez) and then heads towards Freney d'Oisans. As it does so, the road heads southeast for about 6 km before turning east into the Gorges de l'Inferne. The road is cut out of the rock and goes through some tunnels and past some overhangs. When two cars meet, one usually has to back up to the next passing place. Otherwise the road is easy to drive on. The road is located in the department of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes / Isère and there in the Dauphiné Alps.
