HUELLAS DEL PASADO EN MINAS Y CANTERAS ANTIGUAS

In ancient mines and quarries, abandoned years or centuries ago, traces of the work carried out to extract rocks or minerals remain, such as the marks left by the wedges used to open and separate blocks of rock. The historical quarries that provided the stone for the construction of our heritage monuments are of current interest, as fresh architectural pieces can be extracted from them to replace deteriorated ones. Many of these traces were left by the Romans, who exploited deposits of metallic minerals, such as gold, silver, and iron, as well as different types of rocks that they used in the construction of buildings, bridges, and aqueducts, or for the tesserae used in the mosaics of cities and villas, which are still preserved and form part of our architectural and cultural heritage.
