The EuroCity through the Allgäu region, more specifically from Munich via Bregenz to Zurich, often makes headlines, especially in Switzerland. After all, it is almost always delayed—77% of the time. In 30% of cases, it is even delayed by more than half an hour. And this is not well received in Switzerland. After all, the SBB is known there for its punctuality. In this video, we look at the problems and future of the EC, which is marketed in Germany as the ECE, the EuroCityExpress. The biggest challenge currently is that large sections of the route are only single-track. Nevertheless, DB, ÖBB, and SBB are trying to expand the jointly offered EC service as much as possible and will offer eight daily train pairs starting with the upcoming timetable change. We also analyze whether the WESTbahn might soon continue from Vienna via Munich to Bregenz and Zurich. We highlight the advantages a direct connection on the Vienna-Munich-Zurich route would have for long-distance travel within Austria and Central Europe.
