Our First Wind Turbine Inspection with Drones | DJI M4T, M4E, M30T, Mini 4 Pro

We carried out a full wind turbine inspection in the Balkan Mountains, Bulgaria using a multi-drone workflow combining photogrammetry, thermal analysis, and long-range visual inspection. Martin Weider, CEO Founder @Weider360 ApS Project Breakdown: • Location: Balkan Mountains, Bulgaria • Drones: DJI Matrice 4E, DJI Matrice 4T, DJI Matrice 30T • Flight Planning App: DJI Pilot 2 Workflow: We began by capturing a full 3D model of the wind turbine using the DJI Matrice 4E and automated photogrammetry routes. This allowed us to document the entire structure with high geometric accuracy. To complement the visual model, we deployed the DJI Matrice 4T to perform a thermal inspection, identifying potential heat anomalies and structural issues not visible to the naked eye. When weather conditions deteriorated and rain started, we switched to the DJI Matrice 30T. This allowed us to safely capture high-quality zoomed imagery of the turbine, blades, and key components from a distance without compromising data quality. • Capture Methods: Photogrammetry + Thermal Inspection + Long-range Zoom • Focus: Structural analysis, thermal anomalies, and safe inspection workflows Processing: The photogrammetry data was processed using One3D.ai, a browser-based platform with free unlimited uploads, making it highly scalable for large inspection datasets. This project demonstrates how combining multiple drones and sensor types enables a complete inspection workflow — especially for energy infrastructure where safety, precision, and efficiency are critical.
