Neuer Renault Megane E-Tech Electric? Was hat sich verändert beim Facelift? | Electric Drive News

The Renault Megane E-Tech Electric is getting a comprehensive update. And we'll start where you can best categorize a car: with its dimensions. The new Megane remains a compact electric car in the C-segment. It measures 4.20 meters in length, 1.78 meters in width, and 1.52 meters in height. The wheelbase is 2.685 meters. Despite its manageable exterior length, the Megane is built on a fairly long chassis. Another interesting detail: the new Renault Megane E-Tech Electric is 20 millimeters taller thanks to the larger battery. That might not sound like much at first, but it shows that there have been significant changes under the hood. Renault hasn't just installed a few new lights, but has also updated the entire technical package. The new light signature is particularly striking. Where there used to be side air intakes, there are now eight rhombus-shaped light elements in a checkerboard pattern. These elements are located on the outer edges of the bumper and make the vehicle appear wider. That's precisely the trick: The Megane has a more planted stance on the road, even though its basic architecture remains unchanged. Nevertheless, the familiar Megane DNA is retained. The sloping roofline, the high beltline, the flush-mounted door handles, the distinctive wheel arches, and the large 19- or 20-inch wheels are all part of the concept. So, the new Megane isn't a completely new car, but it looks fresher, wider, and more mature. Let's talk about the powertrain. The Renault Megane E-Tech Electric still delivers 160 kW, which translates to 218 hp. Maximum torque is 300 Nm. It accelerates from 0 to 50 km/h in 3.4 seconds. For everyday driving, that's almost more exciting than the classic 0 to 100 km/h time. Because in city traffic, when merging, or accelerating out of an intersection, that initial burst of acceleration is what really matters. The Megane accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds. Its top speed is 160 km/h. This makes it clear: Renault isn't building an electric sports car here, but rather an efficient, sufficiently powerful, and practical compact model. The performance is appropriate for the vehicle class. It's powerful enough for confident driving, but not so excessive that range and efficiency suffer. The most important technical update, however, is located in the vehicle floor. The new Renault Megane E-Tech Electric receives a new LFP battery with a usable capacity of 67 kWh. And that leads to the next important figure: a range of up to 500 kilometers according to WLTP. There are also improvements to charging. The maximum DC fast-charging capacity increases to 165 kW. That's 35 kW more than before. Charging from 15 to 80 percent should take around 24 minutes. Renault claims this represents a 25 percent improvement compared to the previous model. At wallboxes or public AC charging stations, the new Megane charges at 11 kW as standard. A 22 kW AC charging option is still available. And that's a real Renault advantage, as many competitors are limited to 11 kW. Those who regularly charge at public AC charging stations can recharge significantly faster with 22 kW. In addition, it features a heat pump and battery preconditioning. The heat pump helps heat the interior more efficiently, which can save range, especially in winter. Battery preconditioning brings the battery to the correct temperature before fast charging. This is important because a cold battery charges more slowly. Google Gemini is also slated to become available in Germany during 2026. The new voice assistant is designed to react more naturally, better understand context, and keep multiple queries in context. While this may sound very digital, it can be helpful in everyday life if it truly simplifies operation. Finally, the big question remains: What will the new Renault Megane E-Tech Electric cost? And that's where things get interesting. Renault hasn't yet announced an official price for this revised version. However, one thing is clear: with a new 67 kWh LFP battery, a WLTP range of up to 500 kilometers, 165 kW DC fast charging, optional 22 kW AC charging, a heat pump, V2L technology, and Google integration, the Megane becomes significantly more attractive from a technical standpoint.
