#internationalwomensday Can we be artists and parents at the same time? It is well known that female artists are side lined because of gender inequality. If we have babies this can happen ever more so. For female performing artists who have given themselves body and soul to an art there is reason to be afraid. We don’t have as standard a performing arts infrastructure that welcomes mothers and financially supports the cost of parenting. There is a very real fear that the job you love and are good at is slippery to hold on to when you become a mother. How many of us hid pregnancy until the last possible moment when it just became obvious? I would like to believe that a woman can continue to work and express herself as an artist after becoming a mother. We have much to say, and a whole lot of like experience to offer.
