This campaign of 1815 is the last of the Napoleonic wars and marks the definitive end of the era of Napoleon I. This campaign pits France against the Seventh Coalition formed in reaction to Napoleon's return to power. He entered Belgium, then part of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands, hoping to achieve a decisive success over the British, the Prussians and their allies which would allow him to remain on the throne. After initial successes, his army was routed on the fourth day at the Battle of Waterloo on June 18; Grouchy's corps, detached for a lateral maneuver against the Prussians, did not return to French territory until June 20. France is invaded again, which leads to the final abdication of Napoleon, the capture of Paris by the allies on July 3 and the Second Restoration.
