In the group stage of the 20s singles at the Ballarat Open, I faced off against Ryan McMahon. Entering the match as the favourite, I knew I had to establish my rhythm early. My game plan was to rely heavily on my high-arcing, spinny loops to control the pace of the table. But Ryan had a massive trick up his sleeve: an unpredictable, flat slap/punch counter-attack that was absolutely lethal. Whenever he timed it right, those counters were completely unreturnable and flew past me before I could even react!
