‘4번 타면 지구 한 바퀴’ 블라디보스토크에서 모스크바까지 9,288km 러시아 대륙 횡단 기차 여행 | 시베리아 횡단열차 | 세계테마기행 | #골라듄다큐
※ This video is an excerpt from *World Theme Travel - Running Through Winter, Trans-Siberian Railway*, which aired in November 2016. The journey on the Trans-Siberian Railway begins in Vladivostok. In Vladivostok, the largest port city on the East Sea coast, I was fortunate enough to board a fishing boat. It was the boat of Roma, a young firefighter. Sea fishing with Roma, who heads out to sea on his days off. Did Curator Lee Dae-woo, attempting sea fishing for the first time in his life, manage to catch a fish? Returning to land, I head to Vladivostok Station, the starting and ending point of the Trans-Siberian Railway heading toward Moscow. From there begins a grand journey covering a staggering 9,288 km. While traveling to Moscow, the Trans-Siberian Railway passes through seven time zones and encounters over 160 stations. And it picks up and drops off countless people. I continue my journey, chatting and sharing food with two other travelers who boarded the train at a station called Ruzino. The Trans-Siberian Railway presents you with such wonderful friends. The magnificent scenery of Siberia is a bonus. On the second day after departing Vladivostok, I finally arrived in Chita. It is a city that grew into a transportation hub following the opening of the Trans-Siberian Railway. It is also the city that served as the setting for Chunwon Lee Kwang-soo's novel, *Yujeong*. As I left downtown Chita, a vast forest unfolded before me instead of large and small buildings. At the entrance to a village located at the end of the forest, I met a traditional street band. Playing the traditional instrument Dongbura and welcoming guests, these musicians are descendants of the Cossacks who pioneered Siberia. In Elizavechno, the rural village where they live, rows of Izbas, the traditional Russian houses, stand tall. Just then, the first snow began to fall. It is said that these people have a special secret for surviving the winter. What did I see in the underground warehouse they guided me to? The journey began in the rural village of Chita and continued westward. Large stones rise sparsely from the vast grasslands. People are praying in front of them. They are said to be healing stones, with a legend that the ancient wounded Genghis Khan recovered after drinking water collected in them. People believe that if you circle the stones three times and throw coins and rice, everything will go well. I meet people who hold a faith akin to magic. Now, I board the Trans-Siberian Railway again. It takes about 19 hours to travel from Chita Station. The inside of the train feels like another travel destination. You can lie down on a bed and admire the diverse scenery unfolding like a panorama. You can also buy souvenirs sold only here. After a journey without a moment of boredom, we arrived at Irkutsk, known as the Paris of Siberia. A night tour of Irkutsk enjoyed amidst heavy snowfall. In particular, Irkutsk’s 130th Street, with its exotic atmosphere reminiscent of the Champs-Élysées, is the perfect route for hikers. The next day, we pass through the pristine taiga and head toward Lake Baikal. It is the oldest lake in the world. Vast as the sea, Lake Baikal is known for its endlessly clear and transparent water, considered the cleanest on Earth. In winter, the scenery created by the transparent ice formations is spectacular. With a constant stream of tourists throughout all four seasons, Lake Baikal is also the most popular destination on the Trans-Siberian Railway. From scuba divers plunging into the crystal-clear waters to tourists captivated by the delicious Omul offered by the lake, and even people who say they are happy just to live here—we listen to the love songs sung by people for the great nature of Siberia and Lake Baikal. Beyond Lake Baikal, considered one of the most scenic spots on the Trans-Siberian Railway, we continue our journey toward the Republic of Tuva. The Republic of Tuva is the land of the Tuvans, who make up about 0.18% of Russia's population. It is also a land of nomads. There are still people living by the nomadic traditions of the Tuvans. In a yurt on the vast grasslands, a piece of freshly made, warm cheese slowly thaws my frozen body. In Tvorog, a drink made by mixing dried milk and fermented milk, one can glimpse the wisdom of the nomads. To repay the hospitality, I try my hand at herding cattle, and the yellow and spotted dogs follow along quite well. I meet the Tuvans who live in communal communities on the grasslands, living alongside their cows and horses. The Tuvans, living in nature, have their own unique sound. It is a distinctive sound where one person produces two voices—this is the Khöömi singing technique. Resembling the sound of nature's wind, this technique requires producing sound while constricting the throat. I try to imitate it, but it is not easy. It is said that only those who have trained for a long time can produce this sound, yet these young children are producing the...
