Road test of the new 2025 Volkswagen T-Roc, the compact SUV that's growing in size and only features gasoline-hybrid engines. We'll take a look at its construction, which engines are available, its interior, how much space it offers, its fuel economy, its price (from €33,900), and, above all, how it drives. Welcome back to Macchina Gialla! Volkswagen has intelligently evolved the T-ROC: longer (+122 mm compared to the previous generation), with a more generous wheelbase (2,631 mm), improving both interior space and road presence. On the outside, the slimmer LED headlights, a revamped front light signature, and a more muscular style on the wheel arches are striking. Matrix IQ.Light headlights are available as an option, along with an illuminated VW logo, a decidedly modern touch. Wheels can be up to 20" in diameter on the most sophisticated models. Inside, the cabin has been completely redesigned: VW has chosen more sustainable materials (about 20% recycled) and an updated digital interface. A 12.9-inch touchscreen sits at the center, while the digital instrumentation is brighter and more intuitive. There's also an optional head-up display to keep key information at a glance. The interior handles are integrated into the door armrests for a more ergonomic fit, a detail that makes the cabin cleaner and more modern. Speaking of space, the new T-Roc's longer wheelbase makes it more comfortable in the rear, and the trunk offers a very generous capacity. According to VW's price list, the trunk capacity ranges from 475 to 1,350 liters, varying with the rear seatbacks folded. In short, it's no longer just a "small crossover," but a truly versatile vehicle for everyday life. Under the hood, the most interesting thing is the engine options: Volkswagen is abandoning diesel engines in this generation of the T-Roc. At launch, the only 48-volt mild-hybrid engines are available, delivering 116 hp and 150 hp, both with a 7-speed DSG transmission. The real innovation will arrive in 2026 with full hybrid engines delivering 136 hp and 170 hp, as will the T-ROC R with the 2.0 TSI. Driving, this 2025 T-Roc focuses on comfort: the suspension absorbs potholes well, the steering is light in urban areas but maintains precision when driving at a faster pace, and the mild-hybrid engine's power is smooth and well-managed. It's not a sports car, but it's effortless and enjoyable, especially on daily commutes. The mild-hybrid system also improves fuel economy, especially in the city, making the T-Roc even more efficient than before. The starting price of the new 2025 T-ROC is set at €33,900 for the base model and €37,900 for the Style trim. Given the technological innovations and the evident evolution in design, many consider it a good compromise between style, practicality, and modernity.
