High God wants to Say Hi | A Song About God's Nearness

Can God be both infinitely holy and wonderfully close? In my early years of faith, I learned to honor God with deep reverence—the Most High, worthy of awe and worship. Years later, I encountered another beautiful image: a God who welcomes us as we are, walks beside us, and invites us into friendship. Over time, I realized these are not competing images. They are two ways of encountering the same God. The High God. The Hi God. The God who created galaxies is also the God who knows our names. This song grew out of my reflections on Chapter 5 of Awakening the Creative Spirit, exploring how our images of God shape the way we live, trust, and love. My prayer is that this song invites you to hold together both awe and intimacy, mystery and relationship, transcendence and presence. "The High God remains high… yet through Christ and the Holy Spirit, that same God keeps drawing near, saying, 'Hi.'"
