Riedener Turm - Wallisellen - Turmbesichtigung

The tower in Rieden, built in 1866 to replace a dilapidated clock tower, is unique. It never had an adjoining church and therefore served solely as a bell and clock tower. The farmers of Rieden, an independent municipality until 1916, could tell the time from it even while working in the fields. However, the hour hand had to suffice; the installation of a minute hand was apparently too expensive and, moreover, seemingly unnecessary.
