In Episode 2 of our Botswana 2026 Self-Drive Safari Series, we spend our first full day exploring the famous Khama Rhino Sanctuary, one of Botswana's most important conservation success stories and home to some of Africa's most iconic wildlife. After waking to cold, windy and drizzly weather, we head out on our first game drive with one goal in mind – finding the sanctuary's famous white rhinos. Exploring both Malema Pan and Serwe Pan, our search proves more challenging than expected, reminding us that nature doesn't always reveal its greatest treasures on demand. Will patience be rewarded? Join us as we experience unforgettable rhino encounters, learn more about rhino conservation in Southern Africa, and spend time with some of Botswana's best-protected rhinos. Along the way, we enjoy the smaller wonders of the bush, including a hardworking dung beetle that may just have brought us some luck. Leaving Khama Rhino Sanctuary behind, we continue our journey north through the heart of Botswana. The landscape transforms from dense bushveld to open floodplains and vast savannah as we make our way towards the legendary Makgadikgadi Pans National Park. Experience our first crossing of the Boteti River on a hand-operated ferry, our arrival at Kumaga Campsite, and a spectacular Botswana sunset that signals the beginning of the next chapter in our adventure.
