Asperger's Syndrome is a form of autism—a broad-spectrum developmental disorder—that affects a person's abilities in three main areas: social interaction, communication, and the use of imagination in socialization. What does this mean? It means that while for the average person integrating into a group and using its different codes and forms of communication is automatic, for a person with Asperger's Syndrome, it represents a significant challenge. But that's not all. Among the most evident manifestations, and those that cause the most difficulties for people with Asperger's Syndrome—and for which they are sometimes stigmatized, excluded, and even attacked—is their limited or nonexistent empathy and their strong attachment to routines and procedures. However, within Asperger's Syndrome itself, there are diverse manifestations, which is why attempting to characterize it is complex. Each person is different and has their own unique characteristics.
