江の島天王祭は、江島神社の末社・八坂神社と、鎌倉市腰越の小動神社によって受け継がれてきた、湘南を代表する伝統ある夏祭りです。 この祭りの起源は、海から引き上げられた御神像を江の島へお祀りしたという伝承にあります。 毎年七月、八坂神社例祭のクライマックスとなる神幸祭では、お神輿は辺津宮を出発し、石段を下り、参道を進み、やがて東浜の海へ入ります。 海中渡御は禊だけではありません。 それは海から神様が現れたという御鎮座の故事を今に伝える、神聖な再現でもあります。 その後、お神輿は江の島弁天橋を渡り、御祭神ゆかりの地・腰越へ向かい、小動神社のお神輿と合流します。 二基のお神輿が並んで渡御する姿は、江の島天王祭を象徴する最も美しい瞬間のひとつです。 令和二年には藤沢市指定重要無形民俗文化財に指定され、今なお多くの人々によって大切に受け継がれています。 この映像では、江の島天王祭の歴史、神話、神事、そして祭りに生きる人々の姿を記録しました。 この素晴らしい日本の伝統文化を未来へ残すことが、この映像の願いです。 The Enoshima Tenno Festival is one of Shonan's most remarkable traditional summer festivals, jointly celebrated by Yasaka Shrine, a subsidiary shrine of Enoshima Shrine, and Koyurugi Shrine in nearby Koshigoe, Kamakura. The festival traces its origins to an ancient legend in which a sacred image of Susanoo-no-Mikoto was recovered from the sea and enshrined on Enoshima Island. Every July, the festival reaches its climax during the Shinko-sai. The mikoshi departs from Hetsunomiya, descends the historic stone steps, passes through the island, and finally enters the sea at Higashihama Beach. The sea procession is far more than a purification ritual. It reenacts the sacred origin of Yasaka Shrine, symbolizing the appearance of the deity from the sea. The mikoshi then crosses Enoshima Bridge toward Koshigoe, where it joins the mikoshi of Koyurugi Shrine. The meeting of these two sacred mikoshi is one of the defining moments of the Enoshima Tenno Festival. Designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property by Fujisawa City in 2020, this centuries-old tradition continues to unite history, mythology, faith, and community.
