HIKING 14 HOURS UP VICTORIA'S TALLEST MOUNTAIN | Mount Bogong summit via Staircase Spur

Situated just out of Mount Beauty, lies Mount Bogong, Victoria's tallest mountain. Our hike up to Mount Bogong summit was a big one! We were pretty ambitious and hiked up Staircase Spur, known to be extremely steep and challenging. It was our first big day hike and we wanted to challenge ourselves. It was steep but we were so distracting by the insanely beautiful views that we weren't paying much attention to the physical challenge. We stopped at Bivouac Hut on the way up, the first alpine hut we'd ever been to. We were impressed by the structure and the decent toilet that was available! We continued on and started to see snow on the side of the trail which excited us even more! As we began to reach the summit, the weather changed dramatically as clouds rolled in over the top of us. It was such a cool experience though and a great reminder of the power of mother nature. Once at the summit, we stopped for about an hour as we cooked up some dehydrated risotto on our JetBoil before deciding to push on to West Peak for a different viewpoint (and we weren't ready to leave). The view from West Peak was better than the one from the summit and we're glad we did it. We left the summit quite late and returned down via Eskdale Spur for a change in scenery. It got dark pretty quick but we were prepared with the right gear and hiking in the dark doesn't bother us. We had a quick stop at Michell Hut on the way down before eventually reaching our car 14 hours after we left it, that morning! Definitely a challenging hike but an INCREDIBLE day hike that I would highly recommend.
