Once a thriving grazing hub, Long Plain boasted numerous huts and homesteads scattered across the plain, with the Rules Point Hotel at its heart. Though the hotel was demolished in the 1960s when the region transformed into Kosciuszko National Park, remnants of the glory days can still be found in the remaining huts, whose walls hold the stories of Long Plain's past. Long Plain is a vast treeless frost plain extending for 30km between Gooandra Mountain and Peppercorn Mountain, home to the headwaters of the Murrumbidgee River. Along Long Plain road, an array of outdoor activities awaits, including hiking, biking, horseback riding, camping, fly fishing, bird watching, waterfall exploration, swimming holes, and historic mountain huts.
