Cimetière de Charonne | Paris 4K

Charonne Cemetery, Paris, France. Charonne Cemetery is a Parisian cemetery located in the 20th arrondissement, in the Charonne district. It is the second smallest Parisian cemetery after Calvaire Cemetery and, along with Calvaire Cemetery, one of the last two Parisian cemeteries to adjoin a parish church. Becoming a municipal cemetery in 1791, it was enlarged in 1845 and again in 1859, housing over 650 graves on its 0.42 hectares. It was annexed to Paris in 1860. This small cemetery escaped the provisions of the decree of June 12, 1804, prohibiting burials within the walls of cities and towns. The cemetery was listed as a historical monument by decree of September 18, 1964. The tomb of the colorful François Bègue, known as Father Magloire (1750-1837), was classified by decree of February 17, 1965.
