《敢问路在何方》Guqin Version｜Rich Harmonic Colors on Ancient Chinese Instrument

Guqin: 南一先生 Recording / Video: 南一先生的先生 This is a guqin reinterpretation of the iconic piece “Dare to Ask Where the Road Leads” (《敢问路在何方》). In this version, I attempt to break away from traditional guqin fingering and performance conventions, introducing rich harmonic arrangements. Through layered string interactions, the guqin is expanded into a more polyphonic and textured sonic world. The piece opens with deep and restrained harmonies, evoking a sense of uncertainty—like standing at the beginning of a long journey, where the path ahead is still hidden and unclear. As the melody unfolds, the harmonic layers gradually build and expand. The tone shifts from somber and introspective to brighter and more transparent, as if light slowly breaking through mist. Using the expressive depth of the guqin combined with harmonic tension, the music traces an emotional journey—from confusion and hesitation, to gradual clarity and inner resolve. It carries a sense of quiet healing and emotional awakening.
