Di Jalan yang Sunyi, TUHAN Menemukanmu - Renungan Hari Ini | GWK Mission
Greetings, GWK Friends. Today, let's take a moment to calm our hearts and open ourselves to God's Word. Today's devotional text is: Acts 8:26–40. Brothers and sisters, GWK Friends, we live in strange times. Technology is advancing, but our hearts are becoming increasingly fragile. We may have thousands of friends on social media, but when we truly want to confide in others, we're at a loss for whom to turn. Our lives are increasingly busy, but our souls feel increasingly empty. Today's statistics speak clearly: depression is on the rise, anxiety is on the rise, burnout is everywhere, and many people feel alone, even though they're surrounded by so many people. The question is: why are modern humans increasingly unhappy? The answer is simple: because humans need more than just busyness, more than just money or achievement, but also God and real relationships. Interestingly, 2,000 years ago, the Bible told of a man exactly like today's humans. His name was: the Ethiopian Eunuch. Imagine the situation. He was a high-ranking official, the minister of finance. Successful. Prominent. Owning a private carriage—today's equivalent of a luxury car, a director's position, and a large salary—would probably be worth it. But what did he do? He read the book of Isaiah and struggled to find meaning. The meaning was clear: Outwardly he was successful, but inwardly he was empty. Materially he was rich, but spiritually hungry. Isn't this the picture of many people today? Smiling on Instagram, but crying alone in their rooms. And it was on that lonely road that God sent Philip. Not to a stadium, not to a church with a large congregation, but Philip was led by an angel of the Lord on the lonely road from Jerusalem to Gaza. There he met the Ethiopian eunuch, Queen Candace's high-ranking financial official, who was reading the book of Isaiah. The Holy Spirit beckoned Philip to approach, explaining Isaiah 53 about the Messiah, proclaiming Jesus, and then baptizing him. Afterward, Philip was "carried away by the Spirit of the Lord," and the eunuch continued on his journey filled with joy. GWK Friends, from Acts 8:26–40, there are three important truths we can learn for today. First, God cares about our spiritual health, not just our success. The eunuch had everything, but he lacked peace. It's the same today. Many people work tirelessly, chasing goals, money, and status, yet still live in anxiety. Why? Because the human soul was created for eternity. If it's filled only with the world, it remains empty. Augustine once said, "Our hearts are restless until they rest in you, O Lord." Notice the result after the eunuch believed in Jesus: "He went on his way rejoicing." Not because of a promotion. Not because of more money. But because his heart was saved. GWK Friends, the Gospel not only promises heaven in the future, but also peace today. Christ not only forgives sins, but He also restores souls. Second, God answers loneliness through the presence of a person. Let's notice: God didn't send an angel to preach. God sent Philip. Why? Because people are healed through real relationships. The eunuch was alone in the desert. And Philip sat next to him. Today, many people are always online, always chatting, always scrolling, but no one is truly present. Digital connectivity is high, but emotional connectivity is low. We have strong Wi-Fi, but weak hearts. The world today is not short of spiritual content. The world is short of caring. Maybe our calling isn't to preach long sermons. Maybe it's to simply say, "How are you? Are you okay?" And it turns out, that simple sentence can save a life. Third, our one small act of obedience can have eternal consequences. Philip may have thought, "It's just one man in the desert." But because of his obedience, the Gospel entered Africa through that eunuch, and the history of world evangelism changed. God forced Philip out of his comfort zone and left his large congregation. To save one life. In closing, here's a true story: There was an ordinary Sunday school teacher named Edward Kimball. He felt God telling him to visit a student in a shoe store. He hesitated. It was awkward. But he obeyed. Then, the boy was converted. His name was D.L. Moody. Moody later became a great evangelist who brought millions to Christ. It all started with one simple visit. Just like Philip. It means never underestimate the power of one act of love. One phone call. One prayer. One conversation. It can change someone's life forever. And on a lonely road, God can use our small acts of obedience to save souls and change someone's life forever. Lord Jesus bless you, Shalom!
