His ideas were noticed by Hitler, passed on to Porsche, and thus the Volkswagen Beetle, the most mass-produced car in history, was born. Ledwinka himself was first robbed by the Nazis, then imprisoned by the Communists, and then forgotten by the world. Three million marks in compensation for billions of dollars' worth of ideas—and not a penny for his creator.
