The CJEU ruling now dictates any decision the Constitutional Court may make, which must resolve the appeal for protection filed by former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont against the Supreme Court's decision not to grant him amnesty for the crime of misuse of public funds. This ruling could be key to his possible return to Spain. The former Catalan president has been a fugitive from Spanish justice for more than eight and a half years, with a brief stay in Barcelona two years ago during the investiture of Salvador Illa, where he evaded the security of the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police). The texts released this Thursday do not affect, in any way, the arrest warrants currently in force in Spain.
