Head to Andlau: Romanesque abbey, half-timbered houses, listed vineyards, and the expertise of artisans such as the shield maker. Along the trails, climb to Spesbourg Castle, then stop at Mont-Saint-Odile, a spiritual center perched on pink sandstone, amidst pilgrimages, an ancient library, and a panoramic view from over 700 meters. On the Lorraine side, Saint-Quirin reveals its triple-onion bell tower, its legendary fountain, and its centuries-old processions, at the gateway to the Vosges forests. Plombières-les-Bains recounts two thousand years of thermal baths: Roman baths, a Second Empire establishment, and the "city of a thousand balconies." The finale is in Champagne, in Essoyes, Renoir's studio village, where the river, light, and Champagne houses inspired the painter.
