The Beginning of IndyCar's Split Era
The 1996 American Open Wheel season official saw the IndyCar Series split into two series. The CART Series and the IRL (Indy Racing League). Well CART had all the big teams and drivers, the IRL had the biggest race, the Indianapolis 500. In this video we take a look at the first ever IRL race at Walt Disney World's new Speedway. This race will official mark the start of the open wheel split that hurt IndyCar for the next 12 years.
