The third and final loop of Rally Greece, covering SS14-SS17, was supposed to be about finishing the job after a strong run through the opening two parts of Round 4 of the DNA WRC WRC2 Championship. Unfortunately, everything went very wrong. The problems started with a series of small mistakes throughout SS14 and SS15. Nothing catastrophic on its own, but the errors started to break my rhythm and affect my focus as I approached the final stages of the rally. Then came a completely stupid mistake on my side. After spinning the car, I tried to recover quickly by reversing back onto the road. I reversed too aggressively and crossed to the opposite side, slowly dropping into a ravine. The impact and speed were minimal, but the game decided that was enough to trigger terminal damage. Another DNA WRC rally ruined by terminal damage and once again in one of the most frustrating and seemingly harmless situations possible. Because the terminal happened so late in the event, I received a combined 41-minute penalty for SS16 and SS17, completely destroying the overall rally result after everything I had done during the previous stages. At the time of recording, I'm still the only driver to have completed the event, so technically I'm holding provisional P1. However, that position obviously won't reflect the final classification once the remaining competitors finish their runs. More importantly, I entered Rally Greece with only a 1-point lead in the WRC2 Championship. The first two loops showed good pace and consistency, but several small mistakes followed by one completely unnecessary reversing error destroyed the entire event. The terminal damage and 41-minute penalty will almost certainly cost me heavily in the championship. Another frustrating DNA WRC rally where terminal damage has played a massive role in the final result.
