Relaxing Ride Through Maryland Parks, Paths & Side Streets Come along for another relaxing ride through Maryland neighborhoods, winding bike paths, quiet side streets, wooded trail sections, and of course, a visit past the haunted golf course. No racing, no training plans, no personal records being shattered today. Just a casual ride, some fresh air, and whatever surprises decide to appear along the route. One of the goals of this channel is to document the same roads, trails, and paths throughout the year. Every ride may follow familiar ground, but the experience is never exactly the same. The weather changes, the wildlife comes and goes, the trees transform with the seasons, and occasionally something unexpected appears where it definitely wasn’t the day before. Today’s ride delivered just about perfect summer conditions. Sunshine, a comfortable 72-degree temperature, and a steady breeze made for one of those rides where everything simply feels right. The nice weather brought everyone outdoors, and the parks, trails, and neighborhood streets were full of people enjoying the day. The route featured an unexpected challenge when I found myself in an unofficial race with a dirt biker. I gave him a head start, otherwise I would have taken the checkered flag. As with many things on this channel, the details have already become questionable. Not all of the excitement came from friendly competition. At one point during the ride, I watched a driver blatantly run a red light. It’s a good reminder that when you’re riding on roads, paying attention to the actual behavior of vehicles is often more important than trusting what the traffic signals say should happen. Predictable roads are nice. Predictable drivers are even better. And yes, before the gear experts arrive in the comments, I am fully aware that I don’t shift nearly as often as I probably should. My strategy remains simple: put the bike in a difficult gear and see who gives up first, me or the drivetrain. So far the drivetrain is putting up a respectable fight.
