Winter has truly arrived in the South Island! After a snow dump in Tekapo, we headed straight for Twizel with one goal in mind: chasing the elusive hoar frost. This freezing fog transforms the entire landscape into a crystal-white winter wonderland, coating every tree and fence in ice. Living full-time in a caravan means we’re always at the mercy of the elements. In this video, we navigate freezing temperatures, dangerous black ice on the roads, and the constant battle of keeping our water flowing while we wait for the perfect frost to settle. We explore stunning spots around Lake Wardell, Lake Middleton, and the canal systems, capturing the incredible transformation of the landscape.
