I Found the Calf I Rescued… Here’s How She’s Doing Now
A few days ago, I found Ms. Shirley stuck between two trees. We were able to get her out, and she walked away on her own, but with cattle, you don’t just assume everything is fine because they walked off. You come back. You check. You watch how they move. You make sure they’re still acting like themselves. In this episode, I head back out to Pride Ranch to check on Ms. Shirley and see how she’s doing after the rescue. Before I get to her, I make my normal pass through the ranch, check on the mama cows, and then head over to the pasture where the weaning calves are. Once I find Ms. Shirley, I watch how she walks, how she acts, and whether she reconnects with the rest of the weaning group. Since the calves were already gathered close to the corral, I decided to go ahead and run the group through the alley, put them across the scale, and check how these calves are doing during weaning. The best part of the day wasn’t the weight on the scale. It was seeing Ms. Shirley walk back into the group like nothing ever happened. That’s ranching. Sometimes the work is dramatic. Sometimes it’s quiet. But either way, you keep showing up. Breed for Prime. Built for Texas. Proven on grass. #PrideRanch #CattleRanching #CalfRescue #RanchLife #Brangus #AngusCattle #WeaningCalves #TexasRanch #CattleHandling #Ranching
