Born in Sri Lanka in April 1945. He became a Buddhist monk at the age of 13. He taught Buddhist philosophy at the National University of Kelaniya. In 1980, he came to Japan as a government-sponsored student. After completing his doctoral studies at Komazawa University Graduate School, he is currently engaged in Buddhist missionary work and meditation instruction at the Japan Theravada Buddhist Association. He has also appeared on NHK Educational TV's "The Age of the Mind" and served as an instructor at the Asahi Culture Center.
