We begin by recalling how, in a previous video, we carried out the artisanal reproduction of the Metarhizium fungus, which will be the basis of our biological control. First, we analyze the mechanism of action of these fungi, which use spores to trigger biological processes that lead to the death of their insect hosts. This interaction reveals the incredible adaptability and effectiveness of these microorganisms in nature. We highlight the symbiosis between fungi and insects, which not only benefits the fungi but also provides an effective method of insect control in organic agriculture, naturally balancing ecosystems. Then, we dive into the activation process of the Metarhizium fungus. We require a few key elements: the colonized Metarhizium fungus, a suitable container, honeydew as an energy source, and an air pump for oxygenation. We demonstrate step-by-step how to prepare the activator solution and how to properly oxygenate the container. Once activated, we explain how to use the resulting biopreparation. It is diluted to 10% in water and applied to the plants and the soil where they are planted. We emphasize the importance of using the biopreparation within a two-day period to maintain its effectiveness. Finally, we highlight the numerous benefits of entomopathogenic fungi compared to synthetic pesticides. Not only do they naturally reduce insect populations, but they are also specific to certain types of insects, thus preserving pollinators and other beneficial organisms. Furthermore, being natural, they are compatible with the principles of organic farming and contribute to greater food security by reducing chemical residues on crops. This video offers a fascinating and practical look at how entomopathogenic fungi can revolutionize pest management in agriculture in a sustainable and effective way.
