Inside the Investigation: Project Blue Light

This video tells the remarkable story of a decade-long investigation that brought justice to two survivors of violent sexual assaults. In 2013 and 2014, two females — one an adult and the other a youth — were brutally attacked in separate jurisdictions by an unknown offender. Both cases involved extreme violence, threats, and lasting trauma. Despite the challenges, a multi-jurisdictional task force known as “Blue Light” was formed, uniting York Regional Police and Peel Regional Police in a relentless pursuit of the truth. Using groundbreaking forensic tools, including Phenotypic DNA Profiling and advanced genealogical research, investigators worked tirelessly, conducting over 1,000 interviews, collecting 154 DNA samples, and canvassing hundreds of homes and businesses. While the trail went cold for years, investigators never gave up. In 2021, a breakthrough came during a human trafficking investigation involving a 16-year-old victim from Quebec. The offender’s DNA was matched, and the team reassembled to pursue the final phase of justice. Through undercover operations, surveillance, and technical extractions, the offender was finally identified and arrested. He pled guilty and received: 8.5 years in prison Mandatory DNA designation 20-year registration on the Sex Offender Registry Lifetime weapons prohibition This case exemplifies excellence in policing — highlighting the tenacity, compassion, and determination of investigators who never gave up on the victims. Their commitment helped close a dark chapter and gave survivors a chance to begin healing. 🔔 Subscribe for more real stories of justice and the power of collaboration in law enforcement. #TrueCrime #JusticeServed #ColdCaseSolved #HumanTrafficking #DNAForensics #LawEnforcement #SurvivorJustice #YorkRegionalPolice #PeelRegionalPolice
