The history of Voronezh's Patriots Park and its monuments is a hodgepodge of interesting events, controversies, and differing viewpoints. There's been a particular buzz around the monument to the Defenders of Voronezh—a sculpture of a man breaking a swastika. It was first made of plaster, then of metal, and finally removed altogether. People are still debating whether it should be returned. During World War II, Voronezh was divided into two parts: the Nazis captured the right bank, while our troops defended the left. Not only soldiers but also militia members and even 16-year-old Kostya Feoktistov, who later became a cosmonaut, participated in the fighting. Many streets in Voronezh are named after the heroes of that era. Even though there was no fighting on the left bank, people there also died under bombs and shells. The soldiers were buried in mass graves, which later became part of the park. After the war, the park began to be developed, and it became known as Builders' Park. In the 1960s, a plaster monument to the Defenders of Voronezh was erected here, later remade in metal. However, many disliked it: some thought it was too simple, others thought the swastika was depicted incorrectly. Ultimately, the monument was removed, and a diorama museum was built in its place. A Patriotic Education Center was later built on the site of the controversial monument. Inside the museum, there's a diorama of the Battle of Voronezh, and now exhibits about other wars—in Afghanistan, Syria, Korea, and elsewhere—can be seen. War-time military equipment and a stele reading "Voronezh – City of Military Glory" were installed in front of the museum. The Alley of Heroes, with busts of Heroes of the Soviet Union and holders of the Order of Glory, was also added to the park. Patriots' Park is now a venue for celebrations and special events. Many people think the monument to the Defenders of Voronezh should be restored to make the park even more popular. 🛑SUPPORT MY CHANNEL: ✅Sberbank card: 2202-2080-8847-8723 ✅Donation Alerts: https://boosty.to/igor_k/donate https://boosty.to/igor_k https://t.me/IgorK1953 [email protected] email https://max.ru/u/f9LHodD0cOJmdC6paQ5P...
