These Costa Rican musicians and lifelong friends play their own concert arrangements of instrumental masterpieces in a virtuosic way. CRduo was founded in 2020 and its name is derived from the initials of their surnames —Castro & Robles— and their native country —Costa Rica—. In February 1935 —just a few months before his tragic death in an airplane accident—, the one-and-only Argentinian singer, songwriter, actor and composer Carlos Gardel filmed his last movie “Tango Bar” in New York. The artist was a true aficionado of horse races and owned himself 8 horses. Indeed he had to play the role of a compulsive horse-track gambler in that movie, which surely was not particularly difficult for him. In this tango the risk of betting on a horse is compared with the chances that one must take in life to win in love: the result is often so extremely tight and close until the finish line that is worthy of a photo finish! Actually, the equestrian expression of its title “Por una cabeza” (By a head) refers to a horse winning a race very narrowly by just the length of its head: the second closest winning margin (after “a nose”) in horse racing. The lyrics reflect the passion and fanaticism generated by the equestrian sport due to betting, since sometimes —as in love— you can lose or win by a minimal margin or even "por una cabeza". Due to several Hollywood films of the last decades (particularly “Scent of a Woman”, “True Lies”, “Schindler's List” and “Die Fälscher”), Carlos Gardel’s tango-song “Por una cabeza” has become the first reference —or almost a stereotype— of tango for the global public.
