Ástor Piazzolla: “Revirado” | CRduo (violin & guitar) | [Teatro Nacional de Costa Rica]

Get your PIAZZOLLA CENTENARIO CD right now! https://CRduo.cc/ For us, CRduo, it was a huge honor to record this video in one of the most emblematic architectural jewels of the Americas. We are proud to share to the world our beloved Teatro Nacional de Costa Rica: our Temple of the Arts since 1897! The video follows the same journey of a concert attendee, who begins visiting the gorgeous foyer and then goes through the sumptuous stairs to get into the stunning main hall. Those location changes reflect the mood and atmosphere changes of the piece, as Piazzolla tries to express very contrasting emotions from the joy of the beginning to the melancholy of the middle section (as if time would stop with the harmonics of the violin and the heartbreaking harmony on the guitar) and ending with an explosive finale! If you liked this video, please tell us your opinion in the comments and make sure to subscribe to our channel right now... and hit that bell! 🔔 Ástor Piazzolla (March 11th 1921—July 4th 1992) REVIRADO (1963) | Arrangement: Carlos Alberto Castro CRduo: André Robles Field (violin) & Carlos Alberto Castro (guitar) https://crduo.cc Facebook: http://bit.ly/CRduo-FB Instagram: http://bit.ly/CRduo-IG Video production: José Jiménez http://www.agapemediacr.com/ Audio Recording: Uroš Barič https://barosrecords.com/ Branding: Daniela Castro http://lado3.com Special thanks to the administration (Karina Salguero Mora) and staff (Hermes Soto Loría) of the Teatro Nacional de Costa Rica: https://teatronacional.go.cr/ Kind acknowledgment to Catalina Bunn and Alejandro Batalla for helping with the organization of this recording. This tango charms with its capricious and snobby character, which goes hand in hand with its title. In Argentina, “revirado” stands for someone who is upset, moody or that has lost his mind. As for this piece, chances are that Ástor would refer to himself —as if it was some sort of musical self-portrait. He shows his strong and rebellious character, as well as his boldness to transform the conservative language that tango had until then. His daring to confront the traditionalists —who even went as far as nicknaming him “the killer of tango”— earned him several scandals, angry discussions and irreconcilable controversies. Bit by bit, he gained a reputation for being ill-tempered. However, it was all a misinterpretation of his passionate character and his eccentricity: the composer would never mince his words. Piazzolla’s masterful creativity and his courage towards experimentation become clear in that charming twisting melody—that is to say, it is about a melody that repeats a melodic turn, with only three descending notes, which hold syncopated accents— as part of a clearly contrapuntal texture, in which the accompaniment is as interesting as the melody. The central section is especially intimate, delicate and profound. It conveys an inconsolable sadness, in stark contrast with the cheerfulness of the main theme. CRduo is a string duo formed by violinist André Robles Field and guitarist Carlos Alberto Castro. These Costa Rican musicians and lifelong friends play their own concert arrangements of instrumental masterpieces in a virtuosic way. It was founded in 2020 and its name is derived from the initials of their surnames —Castro & Robles— and their native country —Costa Rica—. Their first recording project is called “Piazzolla Centenario” on the occasion of the centennial of unquestionably one of the greatest geniuses of Argentinian tango and includes 10 new original concert arrangements by Carlos Alberto Castro, with the close collaboration of André Robles Field in the violin edition. Characterized by their almost telepathic synchronicity, their fascination with the sound blend and their unconditional engagement with the interpretation, Carlos Alberto Castro and André Robles Field are willing to experiment new possibilities beyond the usual violin and guitar duo format. They only play self-made arrangements of timeless music that suit their artistic convictions, their way of playing and their repertoire profile. They are constantly seeking after an audience who can appreciate deep music and in exchange, CRduo offers an emotional journey through their performances without using words... from the intimate goosebumps to the most overwhelming euphoria!
