Sociedade Civil marcha contra a justiça privada face aos boatos de atrofiamento de órgão genitais
The Forum of Civil Society Organizations of Cabo Delgado (FOCADE) held a march last Saturday in the city of Pemba to raise awareness against the circulation of rumors related to alleged cases of genital "atrophy." The initiative comes in a context marked by episodes of violence associated with misinformation. According to data shared during the march, deaths have already been recorded in different parts of the country, including in the province of Cabo Delgado, a situation that has generated concern among authorities and civil society. Carrying posters and educational messages, participants defended the importance of verifying information and called for an end to practices such as vigilante justice, highlighting the need to strengthen trust and respect among citizens. The Provincial Government, through the Provincial Directorate of Youth, Employment and Sports, joined the initiative, emphasizing that the spread of rumors has contributed to an atmosphere of fear, with negative impacts on social interaction and the normal course of economic and sporting activities. The march also included the participation of representatives from political parties, civil society organizations, and young people, who together reinforced the appeal for calm, responsibility in sharing information, and the promotion of a culture of peace.
