Shiho giri and Happo giri - Aikido Virtual Dojo
This time we look at 2 ways of practicing with the bokken: the shiho giri (cutting in 4 directions) and the happo giri (or happo no giri - cutting in 8 directions). This is a great traditional practice which develops the coordination of the whole body, while cutting with the sword in different directions. The main focus is on keeping the movement of the sword aligned with the turns of the body, and also on keeping stable position through the movement. With increasing experience you can start accelerating the movement and continue with more cycles without stopping.
