Zugspitze via Höllental Route | Complete 2-Day Guide | Glacier, Via Ferrata & June 2026 Conditions

In this video, I document my complete ascent of Germany’s highest mountain, Zugspitze (2,962 m) via the famous Höllental Route. We completed the route on June 25–26, 2026, staying overnight at Höllentalhütte before summiting the next morning. This video follows the entire route in chronological order—from Hammersbach, through the breathtaking Höllentalklamm, across the glacier, through the Randkluft, and finally up the Via Ferrata (Klettersteig) to the summit. Along the way, I also share practical tips based on my own experience, including current glacier conditions, timing, water planning, and things I wish I had known before starting. 🗓 Itinerary Day 1 (June 25) • Start from Hammersbach (~3:00 PM) • Walk through Höllentalklamm Gorge • Arrive at Höllentalhütte (~6:00 PM) • Overnight at the mountain hut Day 2 (June 26) • Wake up at 4:00 AM • Leave the hut around 5:00 AM • Cross the glacier • Pass the Randkluft • Climb the Via Ferrata • Summit Zugspitze 💡 Tips from My Experience ✔️ I highly recommend doing this route over two days. ✔️ Start as early as possible. Many experienced climbers left around 3:00 AM, which helps avoid crowds and the midday heat. ✔️ Bring enough food and water, and plan your refill carefully. ✔️ The Via Ferrata above the glacier is physically demanding. While the technical difficulty is moderate, endurance is the real challenge. ✔️ Once you leave the glacier and enter the Via Ferrata, retreat becomes very difficult. Make sure you’re confident in your fitness before committing to the climb.
