I Painted This From Memory (No Photo Reference)

Most landscape paintings start with a photograph. This one doesn't. In this video I take a simple field sketch and use it as a starting point for a small 10cm x 10cm acrylic landscape, relying entirely on memory to complete the painting. No photo reference, no tracing, no screen beside the easel—just the impressions, colours and atmosphere that stayed with me after being out in the landscape. You'll see the entire process in real time, from the first brushstrokes through to the finished painting, along with some thoughts on why painting from memory can lead to more personal and expressive work. Sometimes the details fade, but the feeling remains. If you've ever wondered whether a painting needs a photograph to succeed, this video might change your mind.
