M91TS, M91/24, & M91/28 Special Troops Carbines - Italy's Carcano Part III
In our continuing effort to revisit the historical military rifles of WWI and WWII, its now time to take a closer look at the Italian Carcano series of bolt actions. In Part III, we focus on the variants of the Moschetto per Truppe Speciali or 'Special Troops Carbine'. Intended for elite forces and also secondline units, these were basically shortened versions of the long infantry rifle. We begin with the original M91TS, which became very popular in the Great War, where it was effective in trench warfare. Then we move to the M91/24, which was an economical way for Italy to obtain more carbines during the interwar period. Finally, we look at the M91/28, which was unofficially the standard issue Italian rifle during the 1930s and into WWII. Interested in becoming a Patreon contributor?
