The 128 channel VHF Motorola GM350

The first appearance of this radio on this channel was of a dead radio, it was DOA and I was about to start investigating the fault, a few weeks later my accident took place, a few days prior to recording this video I discovered the radio was not as dead as I first thought, all I had done however was strip the radio down to its bare PCB and was applying power to trace any faults, which clearly there are none whatsoever. This radio was then programmed for 2-metres, it had arrived to me, unsurprisingly, on business frequencies, which of course were of no use to me, as I have set up a virtual machine on the laptop as well as the desktop and run a pretty much identical setup there I was able to program the radio without issue, in this video I decided to add MB7ICC, a gateway to Hubnet located near Stockton-on-Tees. These radios are certainly very useful to Amateur radio operators either as a rig for a specific band or a gateway radio, the 4-channel versions are more suited to gateway use in my opinion, all variants have the 16-pin accessory interface on the rear panel and the pinout is widely available. Motorola GM350s appear on eBay very often, usually they're surplus to requirements as taxi outfits upgrade to newer radios, sometimes the radios are available with the mic and power lead but sometimes they're not and are sold as untested, as it the case for this one but having all I needed to test it meant that was not an issue, plus a programming interface to the design by George Smart M1GEO that I made to investigate the programming anomaly in my 70MHz 4-channel GM350, this is here https://www.george-smart.co.uk/scrapb... should you need a programming cable and feel confident enough to build it yourself, if not they're readily available on Amazon and eBay (I have seen them) This particular example transmits fine, at around 21 watts on 2-metres, I see no reason to retune it to get more power out, I was also able to access MB7ICC with no problem using this radio and my flowerpot antenna. #hamradio #amateurradio #vhf #2-meters #145mhz #motorola Help support the channel, basic level for only £0.99 or early access for an extra £2.00:    / @paulmcgeem0wnu
