Santa Monica Armlifting Recap: Carl’s World Record, Martins Licis & 303 Was Right There

The Santa Monica Classic delivered everything we hoped for: world records, huge lifts, big energy, and a major spotlight on the sport of Armlifting. In this full recap, we take you back to the Santa Monica Pier for one of the most exciting Armlifting USA events of the year. The biggest moment of the day was Carl Myerscough’s massive world record lift — a performance that showed exactly how powerful, technical, and dramatic this sport can be when the best athletes in the world step onto the platform. But this event was bigger than one lift. With Martins Licis bringing major attention to the contest, the Santa Monica Classic gave new fans a front-row look at what Armlifting is all about: grip strength, pressure, patience, and athletes willing to put themselves on the line in front of a crowd. From the five biggest lifts of the day to the energy around the platform, this recap captures why Armlifting is growing and why more people need to be watching. You’ll also see my own attempt at 303 pounds on the 60 mm axle. I got it almost all the way to lockout, but almost is not enough. That lift will stay with me, not as a failure to hide from, but as a lesson. The position was there. The strength was close. The next step is finishing the lift when it matters most. That is the beauty of this sport. Some days you leave with a world record. Some days you leave with unfinished business. Either way, the platform tells the truth. Santa Monica was a major step forward for Armlifting USA. The athletes showed up. The crowd responded. The lifts were real. The pressure was real. And the sport looked exactly like it belongs on a bigger stage. Thank you to Martins Licis, Romark Weiss, Melissa Myerscough, and Brandon Christ for helping me produce this awesome contest. Thank you to every athlete, supporter, and fan who helped make this event special. Huge respect to Carl Myerscough for an incredible world record, to Martins Licis for helping showcase Armlifting to a larger audience, and to everyone who competed with heart.
