Violin: Sayee Rakshith Mridangam: Delhi Sairam Mridangam: Sumesh Narayanan "Priye Charusheele" is the 19th Ashtapadi from Jayadeva's Gita Govindam. In this romantic hymn, a repentant Lord Krishna humbly pleads with an angry Radha for forgiveness, begging her to place her lotus feet upon his head and soothe the anguish of separation. Gita Govindam comprises 12 chapters and 24 songs, most with eight padas (Ashtapadis), and unfolds over a single night, portraying the emotional journey of love through longing, jealousy, anger, forgiveness, and reunion. She was sighing heavily and gazing sadly at her friend's face in the evening. Then Sri Krishna came to Radha happily but faltered while talking. O Radha, if you are truly angry with me, then punish me. Wound me with your sharp nails, bind me in your embrace, or bite me with your teeth, whatever brings you satisfaction, I willingly accept. O Radha, you are my greatest ornament, my very life, and the priceless jewel in the ocean of existence. May your love for me remain constant forever, for that is my heart's deepest desire. O slender one, your lotus-blue eyes have turned crimson with anger. If those fiery glances become the flower-arrows of Kama, the god of love, and strike me, Krishna, let them leave me flushed with the colour of love. May the jeweled necklace upon your full bosom shimmer with every movement, delighting your heart. May the girdle around your graceful hips softly tinkle, proclaiming the commands of Manmatha, the god of love. Your lotus feet surpass the beauty of the finest earthly lotuses, filling my heart with the bliss of love. Speak to me gently, and let me adorn your tender feet with crimson lac so they glow with love's radiance. Your lotus feet outshine all lotuses and fill my heart with joy. Speak to me in your gentle voice, and let your crimson-lac adorned feet enchant me once again. Place your tender lotus feet upon my head. They alone can dispel the poison of love and soothe the fierce fire of passion that consumes my heart. ---------------------- DISCLAIMER: These songs have been uploaded solely for listening pleasure and as an archive to preserve Carnatic music.
